Theatre Aspen announced the first show of its 2016 summer season yesterday.

The company will be one of about 10 regional companies across the country to perform “Mamma Mia!” next year. It is the first time that the rights to the script have been released to smaller companies.

The show is a jukebox musical, which means it uses songs that are already written, and puts them into the storyline of the performance. As you might have guessed by the title, the musical uses the songs of ABBA, including “Super Trouper” and “Take a Chance on Me”, and of course, “Mamma Mia!”

The 10 companies included in the list of those who hold the rights are part of a select group. It’s the first time that the show has been performed outside of London’s West End, Broadway or on  a sanctioned tour.

The show is planned to open next June.
