UPDATE: Fallen Christiana Peak climber identified

UPDATE:  9/29/2015 9:05 p.m.

The body of Travis Boyle, 41, of Union, Kentucky was recovered by Mountain Rescue Aspen Tuesday afternoon. Boyle and two companions were climbing Christiana Peak west of Aspen when he reportedly fell 200 feet. 

 

There is an ongoing investigation regarding the cause of his death.

Mountain Rescue has recovered the body and the team has returned safely.

Crews are continuing their efforts to recover the body of a fallen climber at Chrisitana Peak. The team includes a horse, as the recovery efforts were not able to reach the body when it was reported Monday evening.

 

The name of the climber is expected to be released this afternoon.

 

 

 

EARLIER: Rescue crews are recovering the body of an unidentified climber this morning. He died after falling on Christiana Peak yesterday.

The man fell about 200 feet, according to another climber who called the Pitkin County Sheriff at 5:45 pm Monday. The climber told authorities that in addition to the man who fell, a third climber was stranded on a cliff band above the deceased.

Mountain Rescue Aspen volunteers were inserted into the field via a Flight for Life helicopter, landing at Capitol Lake at 7:50 pm.

In the dark, the rescue crew was able to reach the stranded climber on foot and brought the person to Capitol Lake. All volunteer rescuers and the original climbing party set up camp and spent the night at the lake.

The identity of the deceased climber is being withheld pending notification of kin.

Christiana Peak is in the Capitol Peak vicinity and has an elevation of twelve-thousand-fifty-one (12751) feet.
