UPDATED: Blue Lake Preschool will reopen Friday

UPDATED: Blue Lake Preschool will reopen locations in El Jebel and Carbondale on Friday.

Parents received an email update on Thursday explaining why Blue Lake Preschool closed at both locations on Thursday. The boyfriend of a current staff member "has been perceived to threaten some members of the Blue Lake staff," because of a dispute. The man was spotted in the preschool's parking lot on Wednesday in El Jebel, prompting concerns. Executive Director Michelle Oger and Blue Lake's Board of Directors say after reviewing the matter, they are sure no one was hurt, but security will be increased. Blue Lake will also continue to work with an attorney and be in touch with law enforcement. An informal meeting about the matter will be held today, Thursday, 5 - 6pm.

Previously on Thursday:

Blue Lake Preschool closed locations in El Jebel and Carbondale on Thursday due to “incident” that took place on Wednesday. Executive Director Michelle Oger announced the closure by email late Wednesday evening.

Oger said in the email that Blue Lake Preschool is reviewing “security and safety processes at Blue Lake.” Oger says there were no injuries from the incident, but she and the Board of Directors decided to close down Thursday “out of an abundance of caution.” The email sent Wednesday night tries to reassure parents, saying their patience is appreciated “as we work through our efforts to fully protect our school and our children.” More details will be shared with parents at meeting expected for today (Thursday).
