UPDATED: I-70 reopened in Glenwood Canyon

Guy Patterson

The Colorado Department of Transportation says Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon has now reopened. After rock slide cleanup today, traffic is once again moving in both directions.

From earlier today:

Interstate 70 is closed both ways in Glenwood Canyon due to a rock slide. The Colorado Department of Transportation says seven to eight large boulders tumbled down onto the busy artery this morning, but no vehicles were involved. The closure is between Dotsero and Glenwood Springs.

CDOT says the slide took place at mile marker 125, where slides have happened before. A geo-tech team is arriving to review the landscape around 11am, and may know in several hours whether the road is safe enough to be reopened. The agency says a significant amount of traffic is detouring around the closure by taking Highway 82 over Independence Pass.
