English In Action, Writ Large and The Arts Campus at Willits are coming together to bring immigrant voices to the stage at The Temporary in Basalt on Thursday night.
Immigrants will tell their stories of what it was like to move to a new country and the challenges that come with finding community and learning English.
Shinta Damayanti came to the Roaring Fork Valley from Indonesia more than a decade ago, knowing very little English. She’s a student and administrative assistant with the nonprofit English in Action.
“I cannot meet people because, how can I meet people?" she asked. "How can I communicate with them if, when they speak to me, I don’t understand what they said?”
Curator Alya Howe helped immigrants from Mexico, Hungary, El Salvador and the United Kingdom craft their stories for the performance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
