Valley Roundup 4-1-16

Welcome to Valley Roundup. I’m Carolyn Sackariason.

Feel like a fool today? You might if you believe what you read in one of the Aspen newspapers. An annual tradition for decades, the Aspen Daily Planet publishes fake news stories, opinion pages and ads every April 1. The content is aimed at being politically incorrect, satirical and self deprecating.

Today on Valley Roundup, we highlight a few of the made-up stories before we turn to real news … like the closing of one of Aspen’s oldest restaurants and a recall effort of elected officials in Parachute over pot laws. You’ll hear about those issues later in the show.

Joining me first for the April Fool’s segment are Jill Beathard, editor of the Snowmass Sun and Curtis Wackerle, editor of the Aspen Daily News/Planet.

And then we turn Ryan Hoffman, editor of the Rifle Citizen Telegram to talk about a community divided over whether marijuana should be an economic driver for Parachute.

Valley Roundup is a production of Aspen Public Radio news.
