Valley Roundup - July 24th, 2015

Our survey of the week’s top stories, bringing together a panel of guest journalists who provide additional insights, analysis and context to the news. Valley Roundup goes beyond the headlines with reporters and editors discussing issues important to the Roaring Fork Valley.

Guests this week are Curtis Wackerle, editor of the Aspen Daily News, Jill Beatherd, editor of the Snowmass Sun, Randy Essex, editor of the Glenwood Post Independent and Michael Miracle, editor of Aspen Sojourner magazine.

Hard numbers reveal that city officials have lost a grip on the number of cars coming into Aspen.

While it’s been a heavily debated controversy in other communities, Snowmass officials, with little fanfare, have voted to remove fluoride out of its municipal water supply.

Also in that town, some residents are attempting to recall an embattled town councilman.

Homelessness and transients are causing concern for the business community in Glenwood Springs.

As more people try to rent rooms via the internet, city governments are looking for the tax revenue that could be generated by the business deals.
