Vegas cops looking at robbery suspects

The young men facing multiple felony charges for allegedly robbing a convenience store in Carbondale are being investigated by Las Vegas Police. Carolyn Sackariason reports.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Jeff Cheney confirms that the Las Vegas Metro Police Department is actively investigating suspects Benjamin Weeks and Nicholas Ameral. Although he couldn’t say what the pending investigation concerns, he was told to direct media inquiries to the Vegas agency.

Las Vegas Metro police did not respond to an email message seeking information.

Ameral and Weeks are being held in the Garfield County Jail after police allege they threatened an employee at gunpoint at Valero Cowen Center Convenience Store last month. They are both 19 years old.

A few days after the robbery, they were identified when they boarded a bus in Snowmass. They were able to escape and elude police for almost two days, hiding in the hills above Basalt.

They are scheduled to appear in Garfield County Court next week.
