Warrant issued in Carbondale homicide

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) says there is an arrest warrant issued for Arturo Navarrete-Portillo (DOB: 11/14/68) of Carbondale for his alleged role in the death of his wife, Maria CarmindaPortillo-Amaya (DOB 05/26/1984), last week. Navarrete-Portillo faces charges of first degree murder for the crime occurring on February  16, 2015.

The CBI announced the warrant Tuesday afternoon with the Carbondale Police Department and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The arrest warrant has been signed by a Garfield County district court judge.

The CBI says Navarrete-Portillo is still hospitalized in Grand Junction and will not be taken into custody until he is “medically eligible for release.” Officials don’t know yet when that could be. Once the suspect is released, the CBI says he will be formally arrested and moved to the Garfield County Jail.
