Week in the Arts - April 4

On Tuesday, Aspen Film’s 25th Annual Shortsfest starts at the Wheeler Opera House. The event features about 60 short films and is a qualifying event for the Academy Awards.

 

Sandra Cisneros speaks at Paepcke Auditorium as she closes Aspen Words Winter Words series. She achieved critical acclaim in the mid ‘80s with her novel “The House on Mango Street”.

 

The Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities is hosting a talk at the Carbondale Library on Thursday about the Importance of Humanities.

 

The Hudson Reed Ensemble performs the play Bus Stop at the Aspen Black Box Theater on Friday night. The show closes on Sunday.

 

Lotus performs at the Belly Up on Saturday. They tread the line between dance and straight up rock, and have found a home in the record collections of electronic and alternative music fans alike.

 

Comedian Sam Tallent performs at the Marble Distilling Company on Saturday night. Tallent regularly performs at Denver’s Comedy Works and hosts Film on the Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

 

A show put together by the Young Curators of the Roaring Fork opens at the Aspen Art Museum on Sunday. The exhibit was put together by high school students over the course of a six-month program.

 

 

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
