Week in the Arts - February 8th

  On Monday night, Emancipator comes to the Belly Up. The group sits on the more chill side of the electronic spectrum.

 

Tuesday in Snowmass is an annual celebration of Mardi Gras. It’s the 34th year of celebration.

 

Aspen Words has a big weekend. On Friday is the 3rd annual Youth Poetry Slam. Kids from all over the valley compete. On Saturday, author Adam Johnson continues the Winter Words series. He is the author of the short story collection, “Fortune Smiles”.

 

At the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts, the show “6X6” opens. Each painting is painted on a small canvas and is sold. The event is a fundraiser for the center.

 

On Friday, The Flaming Lips comes to Aspen for the first of two sold out nights. You probably know them for their song “Do You Realize?” The band is known to come out on stage either in giant hamster balls or wearing mushroom costumes.

 

Recycled Percussion comes to the Wheeler Opera House on Friday night. They appeared on “America’s  Got Talent.”

 

The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet opens its winter season on Saturday with one of two performances. Alejandro Cerrudo’s “Silent Ghost” makes a return, while Cayetano Soto brings another new work to the dance group.
