Week In The Arts: May 14 - 20

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

 

 

Wednesday, the Basalt Library screens the film adaptation of "The Handmaid's Tale." It’s a part of their “Movies that Matter” series. The screening starts at 5:30 p.m.

On Thursday, tour Ruedi Reservoir for “Storing West Slope Water.” Mark Fuller from Ruedi Water and Power Authority will explain how the reservoir operates, as well as how the dam was constructed. The tour begins at 5:00 p.m.

Also Thursday, Aspen Institute curator Lissa Ballinger gives a talk on “Rethinking Women in Art History.” The talk starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Art Base.

"True Jazz" visits Basalt Library on Friday for the Music at the Library series. Lenore Raphael will play jazz piano, with Wayne Wilkinson on guitar. The tunes start at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, Glenwood Canyons Adventure Park’s “Music on the Mountain” summer series throws a kick-off party. The Goodman Band will perform, and international fire-dancing troupe Dance of the Sacred Fire will be there, as well. The event starts at 4:00 p.m.

Also Saturday, a performance of “Mental Pause” comes to the Temporary. The comedy invites audiences to laugh at the quirks of middle age. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

Literature Out Loud is at the Pitkin County library on Sunday. Jane Floyd and Janice Estey will read short stories by award-winning author Laurie Moore. The reading starts at 3:00 p.m.
