Week in the Arts - May 16th

Friday is Bike to Work Day and to celebrate, it’s Bonedale Bike Week in Carbondale.

 

It’s Glenwood High School’s Fine Arts Week. The 27th year of the event features visual art every day of the week, and performances by choirs, bands and theatre groups.

 

Sunil Yapa talks about his book, “Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of a Fist” at Hooch Bar in Aspen on Tuesday. It’s Yapa’s first novel and it’s been received very well by critics. He’s currently working as a writer in residence for Aspen Words.

 

Sam Durant leads an artist talk at the Aspen Art Museum on Thursday night. Durant is a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts. His talk corresponds with the crit sessions that he is leading at the museum. These sessions teach local artists how to think about their work critically and effectively.

 

If you want to head back to the days of guitar solos and heavy metal, head to the Belly Up on Saturday night. Appetite for Destruction plays a set at the venue, covering all of the songs made famous by Guns N’ Roses. They play all of the hits including “Sweet Child of Mine,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and more.

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
