Week in the Arts - May 9th

See the Transit of Mercury on Monday at 9 a.m. The Three Rivers Astronomy Club will be on the lawn of the Village Smithy Restaurant in Carbondale. Mercury will pass between Earth and the Sun. The planet will appear as a black dot on the sun’s surface.

 

The Glenwood Springs Branch Library is holding their Pages, Pints and Pizzas event at the Rocky Mountain Pizza Company in Glenwood on Tuesday. Talk about the books you’ve been reading with other adults in the community. The event happens on the second Tuesday of every month.

 

Sawyer Fredericks plays at the Belly Up on Wednesday. The 17-year-old won The Voice in 2015. Fredericks plays a blend of rock and folk, and gets into some gritty country sounds. He says his time spent on a farm helped him develop his sound.

 

There’s a painting party at Colori Gallery and Studios in Basalt on Thursday. The space opened in December. The event includes, paint, canvas and brushes. Snacks are provided but it’s BYOB.

The Summer of Jazz and Music Retrospective Exhibit opens at the Art Center Gallery in Glenwood Springs. The exhibit tries to help viewers understand the tradition of music in Two Rivers Park. Concerts have been held there since 1985.

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
