Wheeler board adds new alternate position for 2018

The Wheeler Opera House will introduce a new member, and a new alternate, for the board in January.

There are now seven permanent members of the Wheeler Opera House board, one ex-officio member from the Aspen Music Festival and School and the newly created alternate position.

Ziska Childs is filling in as the alternate board member until January 2018, when she joins the board as a permanent member. Peter Grenny will be the new alternate in January.

Chip Fuller is chairman of the board for the Wheeler, a publicly funded arts institution in Aspen. He said there have been a few instances over the years where it was difficult for the board to get a quorum.

“It was only a couple of meetings that there were members that couldn't show up, and we didn't want to get rid of them just because of missing two meetings," said Fuller. "The solution that we came up with was just to have an alternate. That way it just adds another person and another opinion in the mix, as well.”

The alternate board member will attend meetings and fill in whenever a permanent member is out. Aspen City Council adopted the ordinance calling for another board member in November.
