In an unprecedented year of divisiveness and rancor across the nation and in our community, Aspen Public Radio was proud to host a series of debates on local issues with the candidates and representatives from important local races. APR is the place on your dial and on your device to find intelligent and reasoned discussion.

Where beer flows like democracy

A voter information event held at the Limelight Hotel this evening aims to increase turnout in an underrepresented demographic.

Member-based organization Aspen Young Professionals and city commission “Aspen Next Generation” are hosting the event, in partnership with the Aspen Skiing Co., and other local businesses. In an attempt to increase participation in the under-40 electorate, free beer is available when new voters register, and the event will have a “happy hour” vibe. Extra libations are also available for attendees who use social media to encourage others to register and vote in this fall’s election.

Presentations regarding local ballot measures begin at 6 p.m., and a debate among the Pitkin County commissioner candidates begins at 7 p.m.
