Carbondale Area Rock Fall Considered Isolated

Experts say there probably will not be another rock fall on Highway 82 near Carbondale. That’s according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, which reviewed what happened two weeks ago. That’s when large boulders tumbled down onto 82, just west of Carbondale. CDOT Spokeswoman Tracy Trulove.

“They found that they actual failure of the slope was about eight hundred feet up. And that most of the debris stayed on the slope itself.”

It’s still not clear what caused the boulders to let loose. CDOT believes it’s possible an unusual freeze thaw event happened which normally happens in the spring.
