On Thursday, a big announcement was made regarding a statewide effort to bring more affordable housing to artists in rural mountain towns. Colorado Creative Industries has selected Paonia over Carbondale to receive money for the state’s northwest region.

Carbondale in the running for aid from Space to Create

Carbondale trustees are applying for an initiative that helps build affordable housing and workspaces for creative types in Colorado. There is a huge need now that the town has been designated a Creative District by the state.

The search for members of a governance council that will lead Carbondale’s Creative District is continuing this week.

Carbondale is getting a little more creative this week. The town’s application to become a certified creative district is in the hands of Colorado Creative Industries, the state organization in charge of the program.

Carbondale is host to this year's Colorado Creative Industries Summit May 4-6.

Signs directing people to places like galleries, breweries and restaurants are being posted along the Rio Grande Trail and in Carbondale over the next month to direct people to the arts in town. That’s part of an effort to bolster the Carbondale art’s community while the town tries to become a certified Colorado Creative District.
