One Initiative Remains For Struggling Non-Profit: A Retirement Community

The non-profit Aspen Valley Foundation is all but obsolete except for one remaining initiative: a retirement facility in Basalt. The Foundation this year, ran out of money for the grants it traditionally awards local non profits. But, members of the Foundation’s board say they’re committed to moving forward a so-called continuing care retirement community. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

Construction Could Start on Facility for Seniors in 2015

Basalt Town Council approved a continuing care retirement community near the high school. Now, the non profit behind the project is ramping up marketing.

Now that the Basalt Town Board has green-lighted a senior housing facility, marketing efforts to reach area seniors will ramp up. The non-profit behind the Continuing Care Retirement Community wants to start building in 2015. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

As Aspen Ages, Community Leaders Look for Housing Solutions

Ken Canfield came up with the idea to build a retirement community in the Roaring Fork Valley. At 88, he says he would move into such a facility in a heartbeat.

A clearer picture is emerging of a senior living community in Basalt. Last month, the organizers of the massive project presented detailed plans to Basalt’s Town Council. The senior campus would include multiple buildings on 18 acres just down the road from the local high school.

Organizers say such a development is badly needed in an area where the senior age demographic is expected to skyrocket in coming years. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports.
