On Monday, ballots go in the mail to voters in the Crown Mountain Park and Recreation district. By May 8, they need to decide if they’re OK with a property tax increase to fund park maintenance.

Club 20 is an organization of counties, communities, tribes and businesses in Western Colorado. At their quarterly meeting in Grand Junction on Saturday, discussion will center on the Gallagher Amendment and the Taxpayers Bill of Rights (TABOR), and how these laws affect the Western Slope.

A handful of special district elections wrapped up earlier this month with voters casting ballots up and down the valley for board members. Turns out, the way these elections are run has been a point of contention over the years at the State Capitol. Unlike County and State elections, these local elections are subject to fewer rules. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports.
