GarCo unsure about new federal sage grouse plans

The Interior Department unveiled nearly a hundred tailored plans for improving the bird’s habitat across eleven Western States. That includes restricting what people can do in certain areas. Greater Sage Grouse populations have been struggling, and Garfield County Commissioners have their own plan in place to help the birds.

The Garfield County Commissioners are questioning the science behind a handful of reports about the greater sage grouse. The Bureau of Land Management is using the data in a document that will guide management of the bird’s habitat in northwestern Colorado.
