Colorado’s first woody biomass power plant is nearly complete. Senator Mark Udall and State Senator Gail Schwartz toured the facility in Gypsum on Friday, where wood cuttings from beetle kill trees will be turned into electricity. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen explains.

Heavy machinery is moving dirt around at a construction site not far from Interstate 70. The area used to be grazed by cows. Now, it’s being transformed into an industrial site, complete with two smokestacks and metal ramps surrounding a tall, main building.

One local company is already taking advantage of methane capture at coal mines. The Aspen Skiing Company last year, invested in a project that generates energy from methane at a mine near Paonia.  Their trailblazing will set the stage for other groups to try out similar projects. Aspen Public Radio’s Ellis Robinson reports.

High school students from across the Roaring Fork Valley have been tinkering with toys at school for the past few months. Don’t worry, it’s educational. It's all part of a lesson on solar power. The students have been designing, building and testing solar-powered remote-controlled cars while learning about energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The students’ efforts head to a race near Boulder this weekend in an event hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.
