The state of Colorado is facing new lawsuits over recreational marijuana legalization. The Washington D.C. based Safe Streets Alliance is suing the state in federal court to try and close down the industry.

"It is illegal under federal law to sell marijuana and in this country federal law is the supreme law of the land," said David Thompson, the lead attorney for the Safe Streets Alliance.

Educators in Colorado are taking an inventory of environmental learning and finding gaps where more is needed. A Colorado Environmental Education Plan is being drawn up to evenly spread these kinds of lessons to students across the state...and two local non profits are involved. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports.

On Thursday we told you about how the Aspen-based Valley Marijuana Council is working on educating people about retail pot. Today we’ll explain how the State of Colorado is using tax money from marijuana sales to create an education campaign of its own. The Colorado Department of Public Health is planning to roll out television commercials, radio spots and billboards early next year around how to use marijuana safely.

Colorado is working on growing its “creative industry,” and a Roaring Fork Valley community is part of the effort. Last month Carbondale was selected to be a candidate for a Creative District program. It highlights towns where the arts is the focus. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen has more.
