Artist James Surls Discusses "Sewing The Future"

jamessurls.com

On Thursday a 20 foot tall bronze and steel sculpture was installed in the middle of Carbondale’s new roundabout on Highway 133. The sculpture, called “Sewing the Future” was created by Carbondale resident and internationally recognized artist James Surls. I spoke with him about the sculpture earlier this week.

James Surls is an internationally known artist based in Carbondale. He donated his labor and design of the sculpture. And, the community raised enough money to reimburse Surls for his materials and fabrication. A public dedication of the sculpture will be held in early June, 2015.
