Aspen faith community draws attention to Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day, and there’s a small gathering in Aspen hoping to raise awareness about the atrocity that took place in the first half of the last century. Members of Aspen’s faith community spent several hours on the Cooper Avenue pedestrian mall, handing out pamphlets.

“We’ve been here since about 10 o’clock [in the morning],” says Nicholas Vesey, with the Aspen Chapel. “And it’s been interesting because all the churches in Aspen, and the synagogues, have got together to organize this.” Vesey says he and the other dozen or so volunteers have been warmly received by people walking by. “Quite a lot of people have said I lost my grandfather, or I lost my great grandfather in the Holocaust, and I’m really glad that you’re doing this now.”
