Elle Logan

The Aspen Music Festival and School’s summer season has officially begun.

The Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) is hosting 645 students this year from all over the world. It was the most selective year in history for AMFS admissions. Convocation kicked off the season for students and artist-faculty on Monday.

There are 130 artist-faculty members from esteemed institutions like The Juilliard School and Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music that are being represented this summer.

Thursday, there will be an opening recital with Arnaud Sussman on violin, David Finckel on cello and Wu Han on piano at the Harris Concert Hall performing pieces from Mendelssohn and Brahms.

Friday, the Aspen Chamber Symphony will accompany violinist Simone Porter with conducting by Ludovic Morlot. And then on Sunday, the Aspen Festival Orchestra will perform with pianist Garrick Ohlsson with conducting from AMFS music director Robert Spano.

Both recitals will take place in the Benedict Music Tent. For more information, visit aspenmusicfestival.com.
