Basalt Death: Police Still Looking for RFTA Bus Rider

Farther down valley, the Basalt Police Department is still trying to reach someone who may have been one of the last people to see a man who died in Basalt last month. Daniel Perez Mejia was found in late May in a ditch near Big O Tires in Basalt. Police say Mejia got off a bus operated by the Roaring Fork Transit Authority late in the evening on Saturday, May 25th. There was another man who got off the bus at the same time.

“We’ve been attempting to locate that other gentleman, to see if he knew, or might provide information as to where Mr. Mejia left to, after exiting the bus.”

Police Chief Greg Knott says they haven’t reached him yet--and they aren’t releasing that man’s name because he’s not a suspect. The Basalt police are also not releasing some of the details on what items and clothing were not on Mejia’s person when he was found.

To contact the Basalt Police Department about the death of Daniel Perez Mejia, or the man who got off the bus at the same time, call the department at 970-927-4316.
