Carbondale housing forum to discuss important Valley issue

There isn’t just a shortage of housing for teachers and low-income families. Artists are finding it difficult to find an affordable place to live. How to address that will be discussed at a forum tonight in Carbondale.

As Carbondale’s quest to become a creative district continues, housing for the arts community remains a concern.

The town Carbondale will find out next year if it has been selected to receive a grant to build housing for artists. It is part of a state-program run in conjunction with ArtSpace, a company based in Minneapolis.

Housing in Garfield County as a whole will also be discussed.

Amy Kimberly who is spearheading the creative district campaign, says housing is one of the most pressing issues in the valley.

“It’s almost impossible to find an affordable place to live in the valley. Competition is increasing and rents are going up.”

The forum begins at 6:30 at the Third Street Center.
