On Tuesday night, the Carbondale Board of Trustees voted to raise the legal age for purchasing tobacco and vaping products from 18 to 21.

Colorado leads the nation in youth vaping rates.

The ordinance states that raising the minimum age is effective in curbing high school tobacco use by up to 50 percent.

The new ordinance will take effect 30 days after legal publication, which will likely happen next week.
