Council to re-review Hotel Lenado

City staff is unhappy with a commissions' unanimous approval of a re-built Hotel Lenado, and are asking the City Council to intervene

The proposal is to demolish the existing Hotel Lenado at Aspen Street and Hopkins Avenue and redevelop it as a hotel, free market condos and affordable housing.

City planning staff urged the Planning and Zoning Commission to turn down the application, but after a year of review, the design was approved five-zero last fall.

Staff does not believe the height variance or exterior design fits the neighborhood feel of the surrounding location. The rebuilt hotel would be an additional five thousand square feet, forty four hundred of which creates two new free-market apartments.

If Monday's city council agrees with the staff’s recommendation, it can send it back to planning and zoning for review, but if the commission were to again approve it that would remain the final decision.
