On Monday, ballots go in the mail to voters in the Crown Mountain Park and Recreation district. By May 8, they need to decide if they’re OK with a property tax increase to fund park maintenance.

The park has 260,000 visits annually. Staff has said current funding is inadequate to keep up with aging infrastructure and basic maintenance.

The proposed tax increase is $14 per $100,000 of home value, annually, and $57 per $100,000 of commercial property value. If it passes, it’s projected to bring in $700,000 per year.

The Crown Mountain Park special recreation district stretches from Willits to Old Snowmass, and goes as far east as Ruedi. All registered voters within the district will receive a ballot.
