Design center aims to tackle Pan and Fork, Basalt development questions

Basalt Community Design Center

A couple of landscape architects hope to start a new way for talking about the Pan and Fork parcel in Basalt.

Nick Aceto and his wife have opened what they’re calling the Basalt Community Design Center. The goal is to focus on what the Pan and Fork, and other parts of downtown, could look like. Aceto says he tends to prefer parks over buildings, but believes pinpointing exactly what kind of development might be appropriate could help the community agree on a final plan.

“People that you would have thought have been more park have come in,” he said last week, “and maybe started to see how putting an appropriate amount of density in the right places can actually have benefits.”  The Basalt Community Design Center is located along Midland Avenue. Aceto says the space was donated a little over a week ago and is too new to be an official nonprofit at this point.
