Difficult Campground to close for water system repairs

The U.S. Forest Service will be closing Difficult Campground on Tuesday, Aug. 15, for the remainder of the 2017 season.

The drinking water system at Difficult Campground dates back to the 1980s, and Shelly Grail with the Forest Service said it’s time for an update.

“So, it’s basically routine maintenance so we can upgrade the system and modernize it,” Grail said.

The campground will close so crews can dig up pipes and complete major repairs. Grail said the water quality is tested regularly and is not a concern.

The Forest Service has sites further up Independence Pass at Weller Lake and Lincoln Creek for campers looking for spots. Repairs are expected to take two months.
