A discussion with Andrea Booher about her 9/11 photography

Andrea Booher is a photojournalist who calls Aspen her home. Fifteen years ago she saw first hand the effects of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. The pictures she took there will be on display at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. Booher spoke with Aspen Public Radio arts reporter about her experiences at Ground Zero…

Highlights of their conversation…

On how her photographs are remembered today …

“It wasn’t until Giuliani cut off the media access that I recognized that I was photographing for history and how important these images would be. On one hand, it was an incredible honor and on the other, it was this huge responsibility. When I was there I felt like I shouldn’t leave and when I left I felt like I should be there.”

How her experiences at Ground Zero affect her today …

“I felt more comfortable at the site than I did anywhere else in New York. Like so many people that worked there, I felt a part of something there. I felt like I was a participant and that I was doing something which was documenting for history.”
