Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Area are opening five days earlier than the traditional Thanksgiving launch of the season.
While there was a sneak preview last Saturday and Sunday, tomorrow’s opening signals non-stop mountain access through April.
"We are happy to have the snow and happy to be able to get open and get people out on the hill," said Aspen Skiing Company’s Jeff Hanle.
The ideal snowmaking conditions, along with several days of natural snow, means much more acreage is open this weekend than last. Snowmass will have 350 acres of terrain and Ajax will feature top-to-bottom skiing on 218 acres. The majority of open runs will be intermediate.
The Silver Queen Gondola, and Ajax Express and Gents Ridge chairlifts, will be open at Aspen. The Village Express and Big Burn chair lifts, as well as the Elk Camp gondola will be open at Snowmass.
