Fire district campaign details unclear, thousands spent for school bond measure

Elise Thatcher

Supporters of the Roaring Fork School District’s bond measure spent tens of thousands of dollars last month. But it’s not clear how much has been raised-- or spent-- by a committee supporting a bond measure for the Carbondale area fire district ballot question.

The Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District is asking residents to approve a two year property tax increase, at a total of $600,000 a year. The group “Citizens For A Safe Community” is campaigning for the ballot question. Public records do not show the latest round in campaign finance reports, which were due Friday, October 30th. The representative for the committee did not return phone calls on Sunday. As of October 20th, the group had raised $5,000.

The committee “Bond Together” is in support of Ballot Measure 3B, which would raise property taxes to fund a multi-million dollar loan for the Roaring Fork School District. “Bond Together” spent more than twenty thousand dollars October 9th - 25th. Most of that money went towards mailing election materials, yard signs, and newspaper advertising.
