John DeDakis is a former Senior Copy Editor on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” and recently penned the novel Bullet In The Chamber. He’s speaking tonight at Explore Booksellers about how the book deals with the loss of his son.
It was around when DeDakis became an editor at CNN that he started experimenting with other forms of writing, like biography, before moving to fiction.
“That’s not easy when it’s ground into you that making stuff up is a firing offense," he said.
DeDakis’ fourth novel, Bullet In The Chamber, has a subplot which details his son’s fatal heroin overdose in 2011. He hopes writing about the event sheds light on the drug, which he describes as a Russian roulette situation.
