Krabloonik founder Dan MacEachen dies

Zach Ornitz

The founder of the Krabloonik dog sledding kennel has died. As Aspen Public Radio’s Elise Thatcher reports, Dan MacEachen passed away this past weekend.

MacEachenstarted the kennel in Snowmass Village more than forty years ago. He bred sled dogs there, offered guided tours, and raced in the Iditarod six times, according to race archives.

MacEachen came under fire in 2013 when the District Attorney’s office found dogs at Krabloonik needed veterinary care and were malnourished. MacEachen was found guilty of animal cruelty last spring as part of a plea deal. He died on Saturday from complications of a stroke he had last October.
