Motherload goes ZGreen

The 43rd annual Motherlode Volleyball Tournament takes over Aspen this weekend. Lots of visitors means lots of trash, but this year the event has committed to reducing its environmental impact.

The City of Aspen’s Z Green initiative requires events to comply with a list of environmental standards - requirements such as printing promotional material on recycled paper and including composting in their waste collection.

Motherlode has hired  Alyssa Reindel of Evergreen Events to make sure they comply with the zero waste initiatives.

“Setting this up, you are honoring the host city but also you are encouraging people to take this home with them,” said Alyssa Reindel.  “So hopefully it’s the ripple effect that spreads.”

Motherload fans and athletes will find waste stations that include a bin for trash, recycling, and compost - along with examples of each category hanging from strings above the bins.

Nearly 500 teams are competing in various divisions. The Motherlode championship game is on Labor Day.
