Musician brings American history to more than 600 students through the blues

Musical storyteller Spencer Bohren has been sharing the roots of American history - and music - with over 600 students this week from Carbondale to Aspen, and he's doing so through song.

In one hour, Spencer Bohren’s “Down The Dirt Road Blues” chronicles 400 years of American history. Using seven vintage instruments, he employs elements of gospel, blues and folk music to tell this story.

“It's such a grand story and it's such an American story," said Bohren. "And you can talk all about America's progress and issues and race and technology and all of these things are just kind of wrapped up in it.”

Bohren has been bringing his presentation to classrooms in the states and overseas for more than 15 years. He shared his hour long history performance this week with students throughout the valley.

This is the first artist Tandem Productions has brought to classrooms in the Roaring Fork Valley. The organization from Wyoming connects schools with artists.
