The Wilderness Land Act was created 51 years ago in order to "establish a National Wilderness Preservation System for the permanent good for the whole people, and for other purposes" (1964).
Today, The Wilderness Land Trust continues to work on acquiring private inholdings around the western U.S. to sell or donate to government land agencies, to ensure these lands are protected as wilderness. Reid Haughey, the Executive Director of the non-profit, talks about the organization's importance, mission, and current projects in Colorado.
