On Thursday March 2, Pilobolus dance company will bring their U.S. tour of “Shadowland” to the Aspen District Theatre.
“Shadowland” is multidimensional in every way. Moving screens of different capacities accent the choreography, often showcased through dancer silhouettes.
The production is a joint collaboration. Pilobolus dancers and directors partnered with Steven Banks, the lead writer for the animated series Spongebob Squarepants to develop the storyline.
It’s a coming of age story that goes like this: A teenage girl ready to grow up is getting ready for bed, but she longs for her independence. She falls asleep, only to wake to her shadow that’s lurking behind her bedroom wall. Then acrobatic madness ensues.
The journey into "Shadowland" features accompaniment by American musician, producer and film composer David Poe. The pendulum swings from ballads to hard rock and back again.
