The Pitkin County Board of Commissioners will consider an emergency resolution today that confirms a ban on electric bikes.
State legislation goes into effect on Wednesday that will allow e-bikes on pedestrian paths — unless a local jurisdiction says otherwise. Pitkin County says otherwise, for now.
The emergency resolution clarifies a current moratorium on e-bikes on pedestrian and bike paths in the county, including the Rio Grande Trail, among others. Assistant county attorney Laura Makar said the resolution will be in place while the county continues to study where e-bikes might be appropriate.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the resolution at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Pitkin County Library.
