For this primary election, voters can only choose one candidate. The two with the most votes advance to the November election, according to the Home Rule Charter. Greg Poschman, Scott Writer and Hawk Greenway, all longtime valley residents, are vying for the seat. It is currently held by Michael Owsley, who has to step down because of term limits.A polling place will be set up at the Aspen Jewish Community Center for early voting from June 20 to June 27. Ballots returned in the mail should be sent eight days prior to the election deadline — 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

Pitkin County commissioner candidate Scott Writer

A conversation with Pitkin County commissioner candidate Scott Writer

Aspen resident Scott Writer is one of three candidates for Pitkin County commissioner. Aspen Public Radio’s Elise Thatcher sat down with Writer as part of our series of conversations with the candidates.

Voters are choosing between the three commissioner candidates now, and ballots have a final deadline of June 28. As with each candidate, we asked Writer to choose a location that represents the biggest issue he sees in the county. We sat down on a bench near a batting cage along a lush field in Aspen and in front of the Aspen Recreation Center. Writer said it exemplifies that some things in the county are now actually better than in the “good old days,” which locals fondly reminisce about.
