Revised Airport Layout Plan approved

Federal Funding shortfalls meant a reorganization of priorities for updates to the airport

Now, first on the list is the out of date terminal, which is many times filled to capacity and does not fully meet provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Second priority is now expanding parking, for both aircraft and motor vehicles.

Next is ensuring that commercial aircraft can serve the resort community. As smaller planes are discontinued in lieu of bigger regional jets, Aspen Pitkin County Airport needs to build a runway that can accommodate larger weight limits and longer wingspans.

The Pitkin County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday unanimously approved the newer, lower-cost Airport Layout Plan, which also allows a combined environmental assessment of the already-approved eastside improvements. The public is invited to a presentation of the potential environmental impacts this afternoon from 4:30 PM-6:30 PM in the Limelight Hotel.
