Rifle Councilman found dead at home

Dirks Myers, Facebook

Update (8/02/2015): The Garfield County Coroner says Mr. Myers died after having a heart attack.

Earlier (7/31/2015): The Rifle community is mourning the death of a city councilman. Sixty-one-year-old Dirk Myers was found in his home Thursday morning. The Rifle Police Department is investigating, but so far Myers’ passing doesn’t look suspicious.

“He was a very proficient councilman, very good to work with,” says Rifle Mayor Pro Tem Jay Miller. “He was very knowledgeable, about Rifle, and the issues facing Rifle and its citizens.”

Miller also says Myers’ candor at council meetings will be missed. He had served about two years, and also participated in a long list of civic groups. Myers was a full time property manager and originally from New York state. The Garfield County Coroner’s office hopes to release the cause of death soon.
