Parents in the Roaring Fork Valley area are sending carriers to Europe. New Castle resident Sylvia Ringer and others have collected more than thirty such carriers from drop off sites up and down the Valley and nearby towns.
It's part of a national campaign to help Syrian and other refugee parents keep kids safely within reach. Like many others, Ringer was inspired to help after seeing a photo in September of a drowned Syrian boy. She says the local shipment of thirty-three carriers will first go to Madison, Wisconsin. Then it will continue on Greece or Turkey, where a group of women will match each carrier with a family.
