Five months after discovering fecal matter leaking from the Residences at the Little Nell into Aspen’s stormwater drainage, the hotel remains cut off from the city’s system.
City of Aspen stormwater manager April Long said the hotel has not completed all necessary tests to show that sewage is no longer seeping into stormwater. Workers at the Residences at the Little Nell have identified and repaired a crack in a basement sewage vault, but they have yet to test all pipes that may be contaminated or leaking.
The sewage from the hotel is going to the sanitation district, but all stormwater from the area is being contained in a vault and pumped out.
The hotel needs approval from both the city and the state before returning to the public system.
