Shakey Graves back in Colorado with new and old tunes

Glen Brown

Alejandro Rose-Garcia, the Americana musician behind Shakey Graves, is back in Colorado playing Belly Up Aspen Tuesday. He said last week he was on his way to Kevin Costner’s Aspen home to record part of his forthcoming album.

That’s how the conversation started. Then, when asked about the stories behind his latest singles “Wither” and “Nobody’s Fool,” his response was simple. He wrote these tracks a decade ago. His decision to remaster release them as singles now is more about quality control than anything.

“It drives me crazy when musicians maybe have too much music out, and I don’t know where to start,” he said.

As it turns out, Rose-Garcia has a double EP coming out with songs he’s had up his sleeve for a long time. Some of those songs were pre-released through Bandcamp years ago.

Shakey Graves takes the stage at Belly Up Aspen right after Denver’s Strange Americans. The show starts at 9pm. For more information, visit bellyupaspen.com.
