Walmart family funds Colorado River restoration

A billionaire family with ties to Aspen is concerned about the health of one of the region’s crucial bodies of water. The Walton Family Foundation will donate $20 million toward conservation programs aimed at keeping water in Colorado River. Grants were awarded to the National Wildlife Federation, American Rivers, Western Resource Advocates, the Environmental Defense Fund and other organizations.

Reporter Elizabeth Stewart-Severy talked to producer Christin Kay about why the foundation has targeted the Colorado River and where that money is headed.

Aspen native Elizabeth Stewart-Severy is excited to be making a return to both the Red Brick, where she attended kindergarten, and the field of journalism. She has spent her entire life playing in the mountains and rivers around Aspen, and is thrilled to be reporting about all things environmental in this special place.
